Here's my story:

They call me the Pink Collar Kitty.  I was trapped at a maintained cat colony in Burlington, NC on Wednesday, January 21, 2015 by TNR volunteers who were targeting a litter of cats that were dumped at the colony last year. The person that cares for the colony first noticed me a month ago, but did not see the collar wrapped under my arm at that time. Thankfully, I was so hungry that I went right into the trap.  It was discovered at that point that I had a pink collar embedded under my arm. The stench from the infection was great.

I was immediately transported to Dr. Linda East in Greensboro NC for spay and to remove the collar. I was first checked for a microchip, which I had, and I also had already been spayed.  Dr. East tried to locate the person the chip was registered to but the owner was not located (they had not kept their microchip information up-to-date so they could be contacted).  Animal Control was called, given a description, so the 72-hour stray hold could begin, then avail me to be rehomed properly.

1/21/15 - I am so hungry that I enter the trap set by local TNR volunteers. A pink collar was discovered around my neck and under my shoulder, embedded in my skin.

An anonymous cat lover sponsored my surgery expenses. I can't thank them enough. And a big thank you to Dr. Linda East for taking such good care of me!

I am available for adoption and am currently recovering from my surgery to remove the collar. I'm a very sweet girl and am healing so fast! I will be recovering with Sparkle Cat Rescue and will be in foster care until I'm adopted.

Post surgery 1/21/15. Time to start healing.

MICROCHIP YOUR PETS!

It is so important to microchip your pets! The microchip is embedded in the skin and gives your animal a permanent identification “tag” which is registered with local animal control, and a national registry if you send your information into the chip manufacturer.

A special reader “wand” can be passed over the chip, causing it to send back the unique code stored inside. If the animal is ever lost, stolen, or found injured, that code is used to identify you as the parent. Even if your phone number or address changes, the chip can still be traced back to the vet who implanted it. The presence of a microchip is especially important in the event your animal is found injured, because you can be contacted within minutes to authorize appropriate life-saving veterinary care—instead of hours or days. This benefit alone saves numerous lives each year.

BREAKAWAY COLLARS

My breakaway collar malfunctioned; however these collars are usually safer than your standard collar.

Sparkle Cat Rescue recommends a quick release clasp for safety and also have your phone number dyed into the fabric (permanent dye) so people can easily contact you.
